About 65000 flood affected families have so far been provided Watan Cards, an ATM facility to ensure transparent disbursement of Rs 20,000 to each family as announced by the Federal Government. National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has set up twenty two sites in Sindh and Punjab provinces to issue Watan Cards to the heads of the flood affected families, said Tariq Malik Deputy Chairman NADRA here on Tuesday.
Eleven centres each in Sindh and Punjab have already been established to issue Watan Cards, where NADRA staff is consistently serving the people in the affected areas, Tariq Malik said, adding that similar efforts would also be undertaken in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and other affected areas.
Besides processing the Watan Cards, the NADRA is also processing the duplicate and new computerised national identity cards (CNICs) to affected people, Malik said, adding that NADRA has so far processed approximately 70,000 CNICs in lieu of fresh and duplicate cards free of cost on emergency basis.
This service was provided as a relief to flood affectees who had either lost their CNICs in flood or had never applied for it, he said. NADRA has set up centres at the places notified by the federal and provincial governments and the role of the local authorities including District Co-ordination Officers (DCOs) is crucial to ensure faster, disciplined and commotion-free delivery
Of Watan cards at these centers the NADRA Deputy Chief said.
"It is a testing time for DCO's management as they have to co-ordinate with NADRA and also maintain law and order situation there," Tariq Malik said. The DCO should help mobilise the right people at right place to avoid influx of irrelevant people at these centers, he said.
He said the people hailing from the declared affected areas through the provincial notification would be eligible for Watan Card irrespective of their gender. NADRA requests political activists not to misguide the flood victims on any matters regarding the distribution of Watan Cards.
